Doug Matthews from Sligo managed to eat 16 creme eggs on Easter Sunday
as part of a charity eating challenge to raise funds for the love hope
strength foundation which was filmed live and broadcasted on the internet
to a large audience of exciting sponsors. Doug has currently managed to
raise nearly £900 and we thank him for completing the challenge
and hopefully it will not put him off chocolate for life. If you would
like to donate please visit http://www.justgiving.com/dougiematthews normally charity events involve someone swiming or running marathons...all i had to do was stuff my face with chocolate :-) you did it guys..you made it happen..glad it was fun :-) simon bevan and katrina...both of you created this evening...well done for your part in raising the monies..and of course to everyone who donated.. i look really ignorant in those videos...not responding to what people
were saying / shouting at me...but i had my earphones really loud and anyway...the video...in 4 parts... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCX3ky9fOuc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmjOC0N4q7w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhMWQzUrvcg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-0s6LF2ogI and each egg was dedicated to the following...not enough eggs and too many of you so dedications had to be shared :-)
and i was thinking of jim tersori and ramsey if there was another egg..:-) again...thanks for making it fun to do...and well done for all your parts, in 'the hack' {and alarm and sharp forums} as a collective, raising this money. doug out :-) This was written by glasgow doug as one of the excited sponsors................... Doug Matthews from Sligo put his best foot forward on Easter Sunday and rose to the challenge of eating 16 Creme Eggs in 32 minutes to raise funds for Love Hope Strength Foundation. With a house full of supporters and a gathering of friends from the online forums of The Alarm, The Hack and other observers following the live Webcast Doug completed the challenge which had begun in a moment of jest on a thread at the Hack after some Welsh Firemen had managed 15 in the same amount of time. The support for the challenge has been amazing over the past few weeks and it is estimated that more than £800 has been raised for the charity that was set up by lead vocalist of The Alarm, Mike Peters. The members of the Hack and other online forums helped raise a large proportion of that amount such is their esteem for Doug and for LHS. Each egg eaten was dedicated to a particular person and Doug's son Ryan did a great job announcing each one. Tess (his wife) was close by unwrapping each egg and keeping an eye on the time. The first few eggs went down quite well and with apparent ease but you could tell from watching that this rush of sugar and calories was getting to the man. But he persevered to the end and never once looked like he was going to be sick (as that would have disqualified him from the challenge) and with great focus he pressed on. As he downed the 16th egg to raptorous cheers at his house it is a guarantee that cheers were breaking out as the online viewers rose up to toast the man for his great effort. What you have to remember is that each egg is 171 calories and the recommended daily intake for a man is about 2,500 and in doing this challenge Doug would be taking in 2736 calories. It was fantastic to watch (not a boring show as Doug thought it might be) and so much fun to be a part of. Doug Matthews has set a trend in motion for The Hack and I'm sure there will be more great challenges ahead to support the work of Love Hope Strength. A couple that come to mind already are a proposed walk by another fellow Hack member Shirl and Katrina going off to conquer a mountain in Peru and of course Snowdown Rocks2. Some climb mountains, some walk, others are just crazy enough to eat 16 Creme Eggs! I guess that Doug will not be eating any more Creme Eggs this yea
