Snowdon Rocks - Saturday, 4 July 2009

On Saturday, 4 July 2009, Mike Peters, the recently royal appointed Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Clwyd, will once again host 'Snowdon Rocks' for a third year running. This follows on from Mike's recent successful mission to Machu Picchu for Peru Rocks.

The first Snowdon Rocks in 2007 raised over £40,000 which was shared between The North Wales Cancer Centre at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, The Alaw Unit, Ysbyty Gwynedd and North Wales hospices at St. Kentigerns, St. David's and Ty Gobaith. In 2008, the second 'Snowdon Rocks' went one better and raised even more funding (£45,000) which is once again being distributed throughout Cancer Care North Wales.

'Snowdon Rocks 3' (Sponsored by Mackenzie Jones Solicitors of St. Asaph) will involves a walk up the famous Llanberis / Railway Path with a very special acoustic concert at the summit with plenty of surprises throughout the day.

"The exciting thing about getting involved in Snowdon Rocks," says Mike, "is that you get to see where your money goes. So far, the money raised can be seen in the newly built Eira suite at the North Wales Cancer Centre which will be opened officially in February. This suite was built directly with the money from last year's Snowdon Rocks event, together with local man, Kevin Gaskell's incredible fund raising efforts at the North Pole."

"Cancer is the number one killer of mankind in the world today" continues Mike Peters, " and as I can testify, we are very, very fortunate to have world class cancer care on our doorstep in North Wales. Each and every one of us will have cause to deal with this dreaded disease at some point in our lifetime.

All proceeds from 'Snowdon Rocks 3' will once again go directly to Cancer Care in North Wales, which diagnosed and successfully treated Mike Peters (a two times cancer survivor) for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL) in 2005/06 and Non Hodgkins Lymphoma (1995). Mike Peters is still undergoing long term maintenance treatment at the Alaw Unit, Ysybyty Gwynedd with a view to finding a cure under the watchful eye of Dr. David Edwards who has been Mike's haemotologist throughout both of his cancer battles. Dr David Edwards said: "Mike's courage in battling his illness has been remarkable and he is an inspiration to us all. His efforts will mean that crucial research projects can be continued and new equipment can be bought for both cancer units at Ysbyty Gwynedd and Ysbyty Glan Clwyd which will allow us to improve patient treatments and facilities still further."

Love Hope Strength Foundation is a charity formed by Mike Peters to raise awareness and create funding for cancer care both locally and globally with a series of world wide events such as Everest Rocks (2007), Peru Rocks at Machu Picchu (2008) and in late September 2009, Mike will lead a 30 strong team to Africa for Kilimanjaro Rocks.
